American Airlines cancels flights until Sept. 21

I just learned from a friend who is supposed to fly out of La Paz on Tuesday, that American Airlines has canceled all of their flights to Bolivia until September 21st. Ironic, that the US Embassy just advised their citizens to leave, because now it’s pretty difficult to do that on the primary airline that flies between the two countries. My friend said AA will pay for her flight from any other South American city Lima as long as she can get there, on her own bill. I’m not really sure why AA made this decision since La Paz/El Alto are calm and I believe that the Santa Cruz airport is still functioning, despite a symbolic takeover earlier this week.

  1. Yes, from Santa Cruz you now have to fly to Buenos Aires to catch an AA flight back to the US. Also on your own dime. (This news from my parents, who are in Santa Cruz.)
